         Trainers from Kudumbashree project of India hold trainings in Lahij

 

Ambassador of India Sanjay Rana visited Lahij, Ismayilli on 16 September to meet participants of the trainings of Community Business Promoters and members of Women Development Groups. He was welcomed by Mirza Aliyev, Chairman of the State Service on Management of Agricultural Projects and Credits, specialists of Azerbaijan Rural Investment Project (AZRIP), trainers from Kudumbashree project of Kerala, India and local authorities.

The training of Community Business Promoters has been arranged in Lahij from September 6 to 17, 2018 where youth from pilot rayons are being trained through a business development and management program to support the business formed by the WDGs.The training is being imparted by expert trainers from Kudumbashree project from India.

The Women’s Economic  Empowerment component of the Azerbaijan Rural Investment Project (AzRIP 2) has been piloted from March 2018 and six Women Development Groups comprising 88 women have been organized in five rayons- Massalli, Lankaran, Ismailli, Balakan and Aghdam. The model has been introduced after an exposure visit to India where women have been organized in similar groups for over twenty years. The World Bank has considerable experience through supporting large scale WEE projects in India. Technical assistance  for the pilot has been provided by Kudumbashree, the State Poverty Alleviation and Women’s Empowerment Program of the Government of Kerala State, India. This partnership was made possible through the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation Program between the Governments of India and Azerbaijan.

Speaking at the meeting with the participants of trainings Ambassador Sanjay Rana mentioned importance of cooperation between Azerbaijan and India in women empowerment. “Women are working hard, but they are not well presented in the society due to their socio-economic conditions. Trainers from Kudumbashree project are very successful in India and I am sure their experience will further contribute to Women’s Economic Empowerment in Azerbaijan”, he said.
